
The SAPS in Kimberley marked their Women’s Month Celebrations with a conference centre filled with strong, joyful and assertive women. On August 20th – Deputy Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Henriette De Waal rendered the purpose of the day and encouraged women to ‘Take their Space’ in the workplace and society.
While Chaplain Geco shared with women on how to sister and care for one another. The day was packed with valuable presentations regarding Employee Health and Wellness, Human Resource Development, Finance, women in the Operational Environment and also in Criminal Record Centres linked to crime scene management. Lastly women were encouraged to join in at the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units, where women with a passion for children and solving incidents where families are involved is needed.
Women were also briefed about gender based violence and sexual offences and information by Lt Col Nadia Kika, while Lt Col Odette Raynard shared about sexual harassment in the workplace. With this a motivational talk was given to all our women by Major General Jenny Fourie about women empowering themselves, staying positive and #PressForProgress.
The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Peter Shivuri spoke to women about their importance in the work environment. He also added that we value and cherish the women in our homes and different employee platforms. Look after yourself and each other and by all means advance in life. Maj Gen Koliswa Otola shared some of her life experiences and closed off the event with the vote of thanks.
