CB Hawks set to change the hockey scene

After years of playing and managing Saints Hockey Club, Brynmor Le Hanie together with his partner, Christelle Erasmus, are looking to give back to the Province’s hockey community.

The pair established CB Hawks Hockey Academy Club which conducted its official opening on the 7th of September 2019. CB Hawks is a club created to tour and give opportunity to all boys and girls in the Northern Cape. CB Hawks is located in Kimberley and Upington, one of the academy’s major goals will be to strategically develop the hockey skills of young athletes and to create numerous opportunity outside schools’ hockey.

The partners have recognized that there is a gap in terms of opportunity for young hockey players and skills training for the youth. Due to the strategic and tactical advances of the sport, they believe there is no better time for this initiative than now.

The duo agrees that vulnerable boys and girls from the Northern Cape Province do not have enough access to a structured and professional hockey training program which promotes psycho-social development, life skills training as well as basic exercise in a fun and safe environment.

CB Hawks believes that the potential for Provincial hockey stars to reach national camps is immense, and by riding on the current interest in the sport, they believe that developing kids through the CB Hawks Club will greatly enhance those odds.

The growth and interest in hockey as a sport is something that the coaches hope continues through the establishment of their club for young hockey players, just as Brynmor and Christelle’s love for the game has continued to grow throughout their careers.

“We’re trying to enhance the growing trend of hockey in the Province. All we are trying to do is to provide a little bit more opportunity throughout SA’s finest tournaments and to expose them to overseas experience as well.  We simply want to improve their game and help them develop to the best version of themselves.”

CB Hawks will be selecting squads from various age groups early in 2020 that will attend their training camps as teams to participate in tournaments throughout the country (Kimberley, Upington, JHB, BFN etc.)  The squad will be embarking on a final Hawks tour for 2020 which will see them travel to the Netherlands during the September school holidays thanks to Marco Botha Travel and Sport Agency. With experience as motivation, they both decided to visit the world’s best hockey coach’s and performance academy initiatives. One of the highlighted visits is with Mr. Ray van der Klis, who is the Tech Manager at Club Laren (one of the best hockey clubs in the Netherlands) and is also the head coach at ABN AMRO Eifel Academy while boasting experience in coaching several men’s and ladies first teams across the Netherlands.
